Atypical febrile
seizures or when there is a family history of epilepsy then
we have to go for EEG and CT scan.
EEG will show presence of epileptic focus and type of seizure.
CT will show if there is any structural changes.
Treatment
- Control of fever by antipyretics and tepid sponging.
- Put the child on lateral posture
- Prevent tongue biting.
- Counsel the parents.
Intravenous
diazepam 0.3 mg / Kg /dose very slowly. Intra rectal diazepam,
if there is a delay in getting Intravenous line
We can try with
Inj Midazolam, Inj phenobarbitone or Inj Dilantin. Reassurance
is main part of the treatment. We have to explain the parents
about the febrile seizure and educate them.
