Ivestigation: During the first attck of fits
  1. To rule out any CNS infection by doing one Lumbar puncture and analyzing the CSF fluid.
  2. Mx test
  3. X Ray skull
  4. Fundus examination

       Atypical febrile seizures or when there is a family history of epilepsy then we have to go for EEG and CT scan.

EEG will show presence of epileptic focus and type of seizure.
CT will show if there is any structural changes.

Treatment

  1. Control of fever by antipyretics and tepid sponging.
  2. Put the child on lateral posture
  3. Prevent tongue biting.
  4. Counsel the parents.

       Intravenous diazepam 0.3 mg / Kg /dose very slowly. Intra rectal diazepam, if there is a delay in getting Intravenous line

       We can try with Inj Midazolam, Inj phenobarbitone or Inj Dilantin. Reassurance is main part of the treatment. We have to explain the parents about the febrile seizure and educate them.
